Exploring Inclusive Practices

Description:

Pratt’s newest Faculty Learning Community (FLC) for the 2019-20 academic year, Exploring Inclusive Practices, will follow the tradition of a multidisciplinary and collaborative approach to faculty development, emphasizing learning through community-building and action-research. The FLC participants will engaged in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) as they pose problems about learning issues related to inclusivity, use appropriate methods to study this problem, and apply their findings to their teaching practice. The Exploring Inclusive Practices FLC participants will aim to share their research findings through public conferences, presentations, and/or publications not only with the Pratt community but beyond.

Call for Participants:

This FLC is for faculty with a strong commitment to study best practices and experiment with pedagogical strategies for improving equity and inclusion in their own classrooms and studios. Faculty who are ready to reflect on, record, analyze and share their findings with their FLC colleagues are strongly encouraged to apply. This collegial learning community will ultimately aim at creating a collection of best practices and reflective/visual narratives about ways to support all learners and learning styles in the context of an art and design institution.  

One year commitment will begin with a one day Kick-Off Institute in late May and continue throughout the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 semesters, including one Mid-Year Institute in January, 2020 and a closing celebratory presentation for the Pratt Community.  Members of the Exploring Inclusive Practices FLC will gain the many benefits of cross-disciplinary collaboration and scholarship. Part time faculty will receive a compensation of $1500 stipend (processed at $750 at the end of each semester).

Application Process

Please submit your application for the limited spots available by April 22 (Monday). The selection committee will take into consideration the following:

  • Your application and commitment to follow through;
  • Prior work and interest in this topic;
  • Need to create an interdisciplinary FLC, representing a variety of Schools and disciplines;

The finalized FLC membership will be announced by early May.
