“I mean, it’s really just less is more… For the last year at least I’ve been working on canvases, treating them more as surfaces rather than pictorial space. Meaning that I treat the canvas or the panel like I would treat a wall to adorn with iconography, imagery, stickers, paintings, drawings, collage, posters, yada yada… But I’ve really been focusing on kind of emptying out and curating down the amount of imagery that I include in each image or each painting because I’ve discovered that the more pictoral space and void that I allowed to come through in the work, the tighter the connections and the links in between these images become. I feel like their done now when I feel like I can get this balance between narrative link, improvisational narrative link, and implied nothingness.”
