Mapping Displacement in East New York, Brooklyn

Year: 2017

The Center for NYC Neighborhoods performed a year-long study of displacement pressures on 1-4 unit homes in Eastern Brooklyn to understand how residents are impacted by real estate pressures and City rezoning policy. SAVI and the Center partnered to produce a series of analysis-based visualizations generated with data from interviews and change-of-address records from over 2,500 residents of East New York. While hypotheses about distance travelled initially drove this analysis, shifts between neighborhood characteristics from origin to destination produced an interesting series of patterns that informed the final Center analysis.
