We looked at waste in a larger sense. We asked, When do buildings become waste? We considered architecture that is on the edge of existence. Safe rooms and shelters are built for houses under threat of destruction. They are structural cores for taking refuge in the case of a tornado. These structures create a hierarchy as they are much more durable than the rest of the house. They are active seasonally and the rest of the house is active daily. Therefore the extension and location of their connection regulates how much the disaster is a part of daily life. For us the connection between an extremely durable and a temporal space, is not a regular transition. It is a connection of different frequencies of usages. Here we looked at the relationship of the structural core and the temporal layers around here. Inside or outside, visible vs not.
